At your first visit at Simpson Eye Physicians & Surgeons please plan to arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Please present your most current health insurance card. We will offer to take your photograph for our records, but this is optional for you. We will also provide you with any remaining forms to complete
You will first be seen by one of our Ophthalmic Technicians who will ask questions about your relevant medical history and current medications.
A refraction will be performed that will allow us to know if you are far or near-sighted, and to know what is your best obtainable vision. This often means a change in eyeglass prescription will be needed to achieve your best vision.
You will then be dilated with eye drops and asked to wait approximately 30 minutes as the medicine works. Dilation is essential to the complete eye exam because it allows the pupil of the eye to expand, allowing the doctor to clearly inspect the back of your eye called the Retina. (Dilation effects may last up to 6 hours, but many pupils return to normal before then).
One of our board-certified Ophthalmologists will then examine your eyes with a tool called a slit lamp (a microscope with a light) to thoroughly evaluate you. They will then give their recommendation, answer any questions, and inform you of when you should return next.
Please plan to be at Simpson Eye Physicians & Surgeons for 2 hours for your Comprehensive Visit.
